Who this agreement is with

These terms are between you and Timl, which creates and organizes the Kite Wars World Championship. Kite Wars International (KWI) governs the sport itself — the Official Rules, equipment specifications, officiating and rankings — and its Official Rules bind you on the field as fully as these terms bind you off it.

By registering, buying from the store, or using this site, you accept these terms. If you register on behalf of a crew or a competitor under eighteen, you confirm you have the authority to accept them on their behalf, and you accept them for yourself too.

02

The nature of the sport

Kite Wars is a bladed contact sport. Competitors fly kites carrying sealed blades, lines part under tension at speed, kites fall from height, and people move quickly on an open field. Injury is a real possibility, not a theoretical one, and no rulebook, marshal or medic eliminates it.

Registering means you have understood that and accepted it for yourself. You warrant that you are physically fit to compete, that you have declared any relevant medical condition, and that you will follow every instruction from a marshal immediately and without argument. A single whistle grounds every lane; if you do not stop, you are out of the championship.

03

Eligibility

Open classes are for competitors aged fourteen and over, with a guardian's signature required under eighteen. Youth lanes are for ages eight to thirteen, are blade-free, and require a registered guardian who remains on site throughout.

Single-line kites only. Dual-line and quad-line kites are not eligible in any class.
Your kite must pass the Certified Kite Specifications and tech inspection before your first heat.
Championship-issued line only. Abrasive, glass-coated or metallic line disqualifies you on sight.
You must attend the safety briefing on each day you fly.
Waiver, medical declaration and Code of Sportsmanship must be signed before you reach the line.
04

Entries and pricing

Prices are set by phase — early bird, regular, late — and the phase is determined by the date and time your payment completes, not the date you began the form. Published cutoffs are firm; we do not extend a phase for an individual competitor, because that would be unfair to everyone who paid the higher rate.

A team crew fee covers lanes, clock and bracket place only. Each competitor in the crew separately buys a kite package or an own-kite entry at the individual rate for the phase. A competitor may register in both the individual and team classes and is then eligible for both purses; we schedule so their draws do not collide, and if scheduling ever becomes impossible we refund the combined element in full.

05

Blades

Blades are supplied, sealed and fitted only by certified marshals, issued at the line and collected after the heat. We do not sell blades, ship blades, or permit blades to leave the field of play. Bringing your own blade or removing an issued one is immediate disqualification and, depending on the host country's law, a matter for the authorities rather than for us.

Nothing in these terms authorizes you to practise the bladed format outside a permitted championship venue. What is lawful inside our arena, under insurance and marshals, may be a criminal offence in a public park in the same city. That is your responsibility to check, not ours to grant.

06

Host city, dates and changes

The host city and exact dates are subject to written authorization from a host authority. Until that is granted, everything published about the destination is indicative. We will announce the confirmed host, venue and dates on this site before entries become non-refundable.

We may change the schedule, the venue layout, the format of a heat, or the running order where safety, weather, wind ceiling or the host authority require it. We will not change the total purse downward after the host is announced. If wind or weather makes flying unsafe, marshals may suspend or shorten the competition; a shortened championship still awards the purse on the results achieved.

07

Conduct and disqualification

The Code of Sportsmanship applies to every competitor, official, volunteer and guest. Cheating, intimidation, abuse of officials, interference with another competitor's equipment, and any form of harassment or discrimination result in disqualification without refund and, for serious cases, exclusion from future editions.

A disqualification decision may be appealed to the head judge within thirty minutes, in writing, by the competitor or their crew captain. The head judge's decision on a matter of fact is final; a matter of rule interpretation may be referred to Kite Wars International after the championship.

08

Photography, broadcast and your name

By registering you grant Timl and its broadcast partners a worldwide, royalty-free licence to record, broadcast and reuse your image, name, country and results in coverage and promotion of the championship and the sport, in perpetuity. This is standard for competitive sport and there is no version of a public championship without it.

You keep every other right in your own likeness. We do not license your image to a sponsor as an endorsement, we do not sell it as stock, and we will remove a specific image from our own channels on request even where we are not required to. Competitors under eighteen are filmed only with guardian consent.

09

The store, kites and custom artwork

Kites, cover faces, apparel and gear are sold by Timl. Risk passes on delivery; title passes on payment. Unused goods may be returned within thirty days of delivery for a refund of the goods, excluding return shipping. Custom-printed cover faces are made to your order and are not returnable unless faulty or wrong.

When you upload artwork for a custom face you confirm you own it or have the right to use it, and you grant us a licence to print it and to show the finished kite in coverage of the championship. We will refuse artwork that infringes a third party's rights, or that is hateful, obscene or a political slogan — the sky above a championship is not an advertising hoarding or a placard.

10

Using this site

You may read, print and share these pages. You may not scrape the site, resell access, misrepresent your identity when registering, or use the Kite Wars name, marks or lockups without written permission. Press and partners: the Press Kit grants exactly the licence you need, and you do not have to ask.

The site is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not warrant that it is error-free or uninterrupted, and indicative prices, dates and destination content may change as the host agreement progresses.

11

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Within those limits, and to the extent the law permits, our total liability to you in connection with the championship is capped at the amount you paid us, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — flights, accommodation, lost earnings or lost sponsorship.

You are responsible for your own travel insurance, and for medical cover valid in the host country. We require registered competitors to hold both, and we may ask for evidence at accreditation.

12

Law, changes and severability

We may update these terms; the version that applies to your entry is the one published on the day your payment completed, and we keep every prior version available on request. Material changes will be emailed to registered competitors, not quietly posted.

Governing law and jurisdiction will be stated here once the organizing entity's seat and the host agreement are settled, and before entries become non-refundable. If any clause is found unenforceable, the rest stands. Where a translation of these terms differs from the English, the English governs — with the honest note that we would rather fix the translation than win an argument on that basis.

13

Refunds, in a table

Entries are fully refundable until the host city is announced, because until then you cannot know what you are committing to. After that, the schedule below applies.
