Privacy Policy

Kite Wars is created and organized by Timl, which is the data controller for everything described here. Kite Wars International (KWI) acts as the governing body of the sport and receives competition records — results, rankings, officiating decisions and equipment certifications — as a separate controller for those records only.

Where the championship is held, the host authority and the venue operator will receive the minimum information they require by law: accreditation lists, medical declarations for on-site medics, and insurance schedules. We will name them on this page once the host city is confirmed, before any data reaches them.

We group everything we hold into six purposes. If information does not serve one of them, we do not ask for it.

A championship is a public occasion. If you compete, officiate or volunteer, you will be photographed and filmed on the field, and that footage will appear in the broadcast, the press kit, the gallery and future promotion of the sport. Registering means agreeing to that — we cannot run a public championship on any other basis.

Two protections apply regardless. Competitors under eighteen are filmed only with a guardian's written consent, and are never named in a caption without it. And if a specific image genuinely distresses you, write to us: we will remove it from our own channels wherever we control the publication, even where we are not obliged to.

Youth lane entries and open-class competitors under eighteen are registered by a parent or guardian, who signs the waiver and the medical declaration and must remain on site. We hold the child's name, age band, and the guardian's contact details — nothing else.

Youth records are not published in the world ladder, are not shared with sponsors under any tier, and are deleted twenty-four months after the edition unless the guardian asks us to carry them forward to the next one.

Registration, payment and order fulfilment rest on the contract between us. Safety records, age verification and incident reporting rest on our legal obligations and on the vital interests of the people on the field. Rankings, officiating records and the historical register of each edition rest on our legitimate interest in running a sport with a verifiable record. Marketing email and non-essential analytics rest on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time without affecting your entry.

We do not sell personal information, ever, to anyone, for any amount. We share only what a named recipient needs to do a specific job.

This is an international championship, so information moves across borders by necessity: you may register from one country, be judged in another and be shipped a kite from a third. Where information leaves your own jurisdiction we rely on standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, and we keep the transfer to the minimum the purpose needs.

Once the host country is confirmed we will publish, on this page, exactly which records are transferred there and on what basis — before the first transfer happens.

Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is granted by role and reviewed each edition: marshals see medical flags for the competitors in their lane and nothing else, judges see results and not payment records, the store sees orders and not waivers. Waivers, medical declarations and incident reports sit in separate restricted storage with individual access logging.

If a breach occurs that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the relevant authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, in plain language, including what we do not yet know.

The site sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies: your language choice, your cart contents, and a session token if you are signed in through Timl. These need no consent because the site cannot function without them.

Anything beyond that — analytics, embedded video, social players, advertising measurement — is off until you consent, and can be withdrawn from the same banner. The livestream player sets its own cookies once you load it; we will name them on the Watch Live page before launch.

Registering as a competitor adds your name and the country you fly for to the Hall of Founders, which is a permanent public record of the founding edition — that permanence is the point of it. You may ask to be listed by initials, or withheld entirely, either at registration or at any time afterwards.

Results, rankings and podium records of a completed edition stay in the historical register. We can withdraw your name from the display but we do not rewrite the outcome of a championship.

Write to privacy@kitewars.com from the address on your record and we will answer within 30 days, in any championship language. You never have to give a reason.

Two limits, stated honestly: we cannot erase a signed waiver or an incident record while the championship's insurance and liability period runs, and we cannot remove a result from the historical record of a completed edition. Everything else, we can.

Email privacy@kitewars.com. If you are not satisfied with our answer you may complain to the data protection authority in your own country, and to the authority in the host country during championship week. We will tell you which one that is once the host city is confirmed.
