Founding Edition · Summer 2027

There will only ever be one first time.

The Founding Edition is the first World Championship of Haitian kite fighting: one rulebook written from scratch, two titles decided for the first time, and a register of names that closes when the last kite lands and never reopens.

What is decided in 2027

Six firsts, and then they are gone

01
The first rulebook
A written, public format for bladed line-cutting — measured lanes, sealed blades, two-official confirmation.
02
The first two champions
One individual title and one crew-of-three title, engraved on the Razor Cup on finals night.
03
The first world ladder
Cuts landed, cuts survived and kites recovered, counted and ranked across every competing nation.
04
The first host city
A national tourism ministry stakes its name on a sport that did not exist as a sport a year earlier.
05
The first officials
Two dozen marshals and judges certified to a standard that later editions and qualifiers will inherit.
06
The first register
Every competitor, country, champion and official recorded permanently in the Hall of Founders.
The week

Four competition days, two ceremonies

Two practice days open the week, then the bracket runs. Exact dates confirm with the host city; the shape does not change.

Tournament format
Day −2
Arrival and tech inspection
Kite certification, blade briefing, coached practice lanes open.
Day −1
Practice and Opening Ceremony
Flag parade for every competing country and the ceremonial first launch.
Day 1
Individual group heats
The full field flies. Kids Zone, Food Village and Marketplace open all day.
Day 2
Crew group heats
Teams of three share a lane and a clock. Youth junior heats run alongside.
Day 3
Eliminations
Both classes narrow to a final four. Broadcast coverage widens to every lane.
Day 4
Finals and Awards Ceremony
Both titles decided, the Razor Cup engraved on the field, the purse presented.

Honest about what is not settled

Three things still open

The host city
In ministry-level negotiation. The announcement waits on written authorization for the format, not on our marketing calendar.
The field size
Lane count and therefore the size of the draw depend on the venue. We will publish the cap the day the city is named.
Association sanctioning
We are approaching kite associations and federations for judges and standards. Nothing is signed, and we will not claim otherwise.
