Kite Wars is the first world championship of Haitian blade kite fighting — a street tradition formalised into a bladed bracket with marshals, lanes, a world ladder and a purse. Kite fighting is old and competed in a dozen countries; what has never existed is one rulebook, one ranking and one crown across all of them. The founding edition flies in summer 2027.

01 · What the championship is

Four days. Two of coached practice and technical inspection, one of group heats across thirty-two lanes, and a finals day carrying the individual and team brackets, the recovery chase and the Razor Cup. Blades stay in the main bracket — supplied, fitted, sealed and collected by certified marshals — which is what separates this from the festival kite events a sponsor has seen before.

The founding edition runs two classes: individual, and crew of three. A competitor may register for both and fly both draws with the same kite, scheduled so the heats never clash. Teams of five return once the field and the marshal pool can carry five lanes per crew.

02 · Who is there

A field split roughly evenly between diaspora competitors, local competitors and traveling competitors from the world's kite-fighting cultures — Haiti, Brazil, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Chile and Afghanistan. Around half the field will be first-timers, which is why youth lanes and coached practice days are funded before anything else.

  • Two classes: individual and crew of three, with dual entry encouraged
  • Youth lanes from age eight — blunted tails, and the finder keeps the kite
  • Officials certified in the week before the bracket opens
  • Six championship languages on the field and in every briefing

03 · Sponsorship tiers

Every tier is exclusive to one category. Placement is built around the two things people actually watch: the lane and the bracket board.

04 · Where the money goes

Sponsorship does not subsidize margin. It pays the purse, the officials' certification week, the safety kit issued with every entry, the youth lanes, and the six-language broadcast. Indicative allocation for the founding edition:

Line Share
Prize purse32%
Field operations, safety regime and medical24%
Officials' certification and pay16%
Broadcast and six-language production14%
Youth lanes and community program14%

"There is no second founding edition. Whoever is on it is on it forever."

05 · Next steps

Bring us a category and we will build the activation around it. A signed tier releases artwork specifications, on-site logistics and your named assets; nothing is committed publicly until the host agreement is signed and the city is announced.
